Both of those options are next to useless because unused apps rarely take up much space, and old conversations don't take up much space either. And then you have stuff like "Photos X GB", "Facebook X GB" etc. There are no ways to control that.

Old conversations actually used to be the worst offender for some users - it included all media sent or received in those conversations which could be really hard to track down.
