I don't wish to store my families data in the cloud for a fee. Crashplan allowed me to use my own (spare) storage space to provide this for them.


That was a great feature.

Mind if I ask why you don't want encrypted data in the cloud?


Because it costs me money to do so. Crashplan has always been free to backup data between machines and was/is very good at it. I don't mind paying for a 1tb hard drive to back up my mother's few photos, but trying to sell her on the idea of paying a monthly fee to do so is not going to get me far :)


You can sell it as a real backup: if her computer gets struck by lightning, her 1tb hard drive will too.
