Ask HN: What are you thinking about your personal goals in 2017?

I never believed in new year resolutions, but last year, I gave myself three major goals, out of which I think I'll be crossing off all of them!

For the next year, I am planning to 1. Grow 100 plants in my house 2. Walk a total of 2000 Kms in the year 3. Create 12 big paintings 4. Journal everyday 5. Cook through a cookbook completely

I'm really interested to know what you would mark as personal goals.

I find New Year's resolutions extremely useful, but only if I subsequently break them down into quarterly resolutions so I can evaluate them more often. A whole year is too long a time to check up on your goals.

I developed a pretty consistent habit of exercising in 2016, and I also started a project (https://goo.gl/Qmbbgh) that I think can feasibly generate enough recurring revenue to sustain my lifestyle.

In 2017 I'd like to continue exercising but add a little more cardio (it's been mostly weightlifting), get my project to at least $3-4k/mo in revenue, add to that a new habit of reading and learning new things at least one day a week.

I agree. I've had pretty good success in terms of building habits by sticking a calendar next to the door and marking off every day where I go for a run, or keeping daily/weekly records of expenses (again, with a physical chart stuck somewhere I have to look at it regularly) in order to stick to a budget.

Switch into software as a career. I've been learning Node.js for fun for the last 4 years, while I'm a full time chemical engineer with experience in oil & gas, metals & mining, and supply chain.

Ideally find something that lets me use my project management and industry experience, rather than just being a junior dev.

I would like to do 80 exercises on project Euller. I will try to do that on my next summer vacation (souther hemisphere). I have other goals but I am still focusing on 2016...
