My Meetup group had a demo from the Visual Studio MS team lead a few weeks back. The idea was to replace or augment Rstudio. Given where they are going with SQL, Excel, and R integration, they see VS sitting in the development and data/analysis publishing workflow.
Seemed to me that they are still in the feature implementation mode and were actively querying the meet up crowd for things done in other IDE that needed to be ported into VS.
That doesn't really answer your question, but did my best to restate what I saw / heard.
1. currently not a whole lot. perhaps its best feature is that it's part of the VS family, so in one IDE you get other langs like Python, C++, C#, etc. tho, a heavy IDE isn't everyone's cup of tea...
Is there support for Git? Didn't see it on the video.
