Not really. I mean, open source code is definitely preferable in addition to any other security guarantees, for multiple reasons. But an open source spec of a closed source implementation, together with a machine checkable proof (that works on the binary itself), would be equally if not more valuable as assurance that the system performs as intended.



I agree it's preferrable to have open source code. Many more possibilities open up that way.
