I dont know why this was downvoted. cadaver-derived growth hormone supplementation correlation with alzheimer's is well established.

+ 1 for propranolol. Its a beta blocker. It binds to receptor sites for adrenaline so adrenaline doesnt have effect. Usually anxiety attack is a loop where brain panics, triggers body reaction like increased heart rate etc and that causes brain to panic further and this loop escalates. Propranolol blocks this loop in the body, as in, heart rate wont increase.

Personally I found it useful.

Seconding use of Processing. It was written for electronic arts, new media art, and visual design communities with the purpose of teaching non-programmers the fundamentals of computer programming in a visual context.

I have used it often, found it easy, has necessary functionality for graphics and interfacing.

Please do not promote politics here.

Please see - https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html

"Off-Topic: Most stories about politics, or crime, or sports, or celebrities, unless they're evidence of some interesting new phenomenon. Videos of pratfalls or disasters, or cute animal pictures. If they'd cover it on TV news, it's probably off-topic."

"Please don't use Hacker News for political or ideological battle. That tramples curiosity."

Politics aside, something like a potential name change of a country is important to know for people on here e.g. those who implement systems that in some way have to deal with the names, for example when Turkey changed to Türkiye it there was also a thread on here.

Now in the end those choosing which name to display can never be apolitical, you can only be very clever and diplomatic about it — but in order to achieve that you have to stay informed about the context of different variants.

E.g. think about China and Taiwan. If you have Taiwan in your applications list of countries, you are political. If you don't have it in your list of countries, you are also political.

This app converts visual scene as seen from phone's camera to audio. Soundscape of a kind. Not sure how useful this is but I have been hearing about this app for quite a number of years.

Breath focused meditation gear syncronized with pulse rate - today people breathe based on a count, like 4-7-8 is a popular pattern. 4 count inhale - 7 count hold - 8 count exhale. problem is the pattern doesnt account for metabolic level, so I plan to use pulse sensor to monitor pulse and breathing count will be in terms of pulses. This might create some feedback loop so not sure if it will work.

The gear I have is a cheap heartbeat/pulse monitor integrated with raspberry pi.

@dang - kindly note this frequently posted topic by same user every few weeks. Not sure if this is just for advertising. Since this is being pushed by founder there should be at least be showhn?

AI seems to be doing few things that are similar to principles of Gestalt https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gestalt_psychology#Properties

I wonder if this is an opportunity to detect intelligent life. If the black hole is affecting any intelligent life on the way, they might do something to save themselves or their planet, which might be detectable?

What if this is CAUSED by intelligent life?

Maybe this is part of a galactic-scale engineering project?

Actual pic btw: https://stsci-opo.org/STScI-01GWQ1FTQCCZS72F2GPD4QTJXK.png

Perhaps we could play some galactic billiards someday with a good gravitational model and plenty of computation.

Send a flair out lasting over a hundred millions years, letting others know, “hey, we lived here.”

Thanks for the pic. Actually much more exciting than the artist's imagination.

yes. like the black hole is clearing up the path for intergalactic super highway in Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

Please note that the black hole is causing star formation from gas, not moving star systems. From what I gathered from the article, there are very few stars actually in its path, and it is mostly just plowing through a large gas cloud.

If they could do something on a scale to stop (or even avoid) a runaway black hole they'd have to be enormously powerful. I would think even for species well beyond our capabilities the only option would be to flee.

By our current understanding the only thing one could do to a black hole is increase its mass (useless) or attempt to change its path gravitationally (requiring a massive amount of gravity -> requiring a massive, massive amount of energy)

Fleeing probably makes the most sense for any species.

Or this itself just two alien race fighting with each other. Wait till we see another black hole going other way.

Or an act of creation in cosmic husbandry by some extremely advanced intelligence

Unlikely. It has been seen no where else.

And what would we do if we saw it? It's likely beyond the cosmological horizon, meaning that a reply is impossible.
