I am so thankful we got out of the stock business when we did.
AI generated photos, videos, music and animations are here, and I believe it's only a matter of time before they replace a large percentage of the stock websites/companies.
That's sort of the reason we started building this. I think there will absolutely always be room for paid, high quality stock photos, but "content" at the speed of thought is here, and I'm excited to see how the space evolves.
Hi HN,
We wanted to share a new search engine we've been working on, and get the communities feedback.
Bestlist is a search engine that is focused solely on helping users discover the best of anything. We do this by aggregating millions of data points, reviews, and comments, and processing it with our machine learning models.
All of our results are non-biased, non-paid, and are dynamically generated via our search algorithm. It is also private. We highly respect your privacy, and we pledge to never share your personal data with advertisers or other third parties.
Other features:
Voting
If you’re feeling strongly about a search results, you can up or downvote the listing to voice your opinion. When you vote, you’ll be asked to state why you voted. This gives other users better insights into the listing.
Collections
With collections you can easily save and keep track of all of your favorite listings. Collections can be public or made private, and they’re easily edited, reordered, and shared.
Submissions
If you find that we’re missing a result for a particular query, you can easily submit it as a suggestion. We’ll review it, and publish it if it makes the cut.
We'd love to know what you think, and if you think the idea has legs.
Hi HN!
My name is Tyler, and I'm the founder of Bestlist.com. We're building a search engine that is focused on helping you find the best of anything.
For each search, we crawl the web and collect data, we measure sentiment from social media, and analyze various ratings, before compiling our list of results.
We're still in the early stages, and our results are not perfect, but we think things are looking promising.
In the future, we hope to personalize results for our users based on their search history. For example, if I search for "best gluten free beer" and "best gluten free pizza", and then turn around and search "best restaurants near me," it would make sense to show restaurants with gluten free options, right? This is a longer term goal and we know it's not going to be easy to get right, but we think it can be an amazing feature.
