It's so ridiculous because instead of wasting money buying unnecessary hardware people could just use already existing DNS servers that do the same thing.
I block ads in my home because it's just a nicer web experience for everyone. Plus when I play games on my phone I don't get a barrage of ads every time I die.
Pihole is much more configurable: you can whitelist or blacklist domains with ease. However, Pihole can also be run on existing hardware like a home server, if you don't want a standalone pi.
https://www.infoq.com/ is my favorite because they get talks from some of the most experienced software dev folks, and they cover almost every topic of software engineering
Do you have any funny/remarkable stories of the things you guys had to do in the early days when you were still trying to get your first customers/users?
I always wish I had better stories for this, haha. Kickstarted picked up traction so surprisingly quickly, that we really just ended up being in the position of fielding all the incoming vs having to go out and convince folks. There was plenty of lovely zaniness in the early days -- many fond memories -- but I can't recall any stunts we pulled to try and attract new projects. :)
Met one of the co-founders through a friend. We had a lot in common and, that first night we met, had a great conversation. A couple years later, he proposed to me the idea of working for a company he was trying to launch. (Aka: Kickstarter.)
I have the feeling it might take another generation of Indians growing up in a global economy for them to realize the advantages of an uncorrupt and morally just society.
Theres still so much backwards cultural stigma thats prevalent in India that I think its just going to take a lot of time for Indians to realize what needs to be done.
What i love about Podcast Addict is that it lets you listen to the episodes on fast forward. I'm subscribed to 127 podcasts currently and theres no way i can keep up to date with all of them, but the ones i do keep up to date with i can do so by listening to them at 2x speed.
Sometimes i can even get away with listening to them at 3x speed, depending on how fast the host talks.
You dont own the podcast material, and you'd be taking away revenue from the owners. Not a suggested idea.
I've personally thought about a paid platform where users subscribe to the podcasts they like best and get the perk of avoiding ads since they're contributing to the podcasts creators
