I noticed a lot more AI crap in Bing with a Duck. It’s still my default for simple searches but I now use ChatGPT or Google for more advanced searches.

You should try Kagi.

Like DDG is a proxy for Bing, so is Startpage a proxy for Google, if you haven ，t tried that.

What do you get instead of recommendations? Random junk or just nothing?

I find YouTube recommendations very useful. I only get what I'm interested in or adjacent topics, no junk, no ragebait.

The issue for me is that I really want History (sometimes I need to go back to a video I know I watched 3 weeks ago). It's bs that they need history disabled to also disable recommendations.

I've occasionally experienced this in the past. The workaround was to add a video called "10 Hours of Nothing" to the end of the playlist.
