I had both a De'Longhi FH1363 MultiFry Extra and a T-fal ActiFry.
You can throw in frozen vegetables, meat and seasoning, turn the machine on, come back in 25 minutes and your food will be cooked uniformly to perfection. E.g., frozen brussels sprouts, chopped chicken sausages, a bit of olive oil and sambal sauce.
Prep time under 30 seconds.
Bonus points: Both fryers come with dishwasher-safe paddle and bowl. You can detach and wash the lid too of the De'Longhi one.
5G is typically deployed in CBRS bands - i.e. 3.5 GHz. This isn't mmWave. Will have meaningfully higher coverage areas than WiFi (but mostly because WiFi is power-limited, not to do with frequency).
They're fundraising for a Sotheby's auction, so I think they basically want to raise as much as they can to be able to win the auction. Apparently they were told that it would likely sell for ~$40m, with bidding starting at $20m.
The auction will not sell for any less than the maximum amount the DAO has raised.
If the DAO are heavily incentivized to bid, and you know what their max value is, somebody will bid them up. Sotheby’s is too smart not to make sure that happens.
It is generally a moronic idea to raise funds for an auction like this. You will never get a good deal and your competition knows exactly what your limit is.
I certainly have had the same thoughts, but I think it's a little different when you're up in these prices ranges and on a very high profile item. There's a lot at stake, not just for the dao, but Sotheby's as well. Not to mention the possibility the other bidders could conceivably be left holding the bag.
fortunately, aside from Sotheby’s fees, the current owner pledged to give all proceeds from the auction to her charity. it’s not perfect, but it makes the prospect of overpaying far less painful IMO.
Now they're up to $31 million received, $35 million goal. This now looks like a dark pattern intended to deceive contributors into thinking it's almost there.
Now at $34,971,088 / $35,000,000. "100% of goal". It seems to spend a lot of time just below the threshold.

It's definitely real. There is some convoluted scheme involved where buying into it gives you the option of converting your shares into $people tokens which give you the advisory voting rights for what to do when they win their copy of the US Constitution. They're using something called Juicebox [1][2] which looks like a set of contracts that simplifies ERC20 token creation and management but the site is designed for children so it's hard to make sense of it.
Balance at time of writing this seems to be ~$38.75M (Ξ9,140.55) and the conversion rate is 1,000,000 PEOPLE/Ξ.
Someone commented this is basically a scam to generate a bunch of hype and transfer a whole bunch of money to whoever owns the contract for this DAO. Whatever money they don't use at the auction will presumably be distributed back to whoever bought into this based on their share of $people tokens (modulo gas fees). It's unclear if the DAO owners have extra shares or not but I guess that could be easily verified by someone who was willing to do the required detective work and chase some pointers on etherscan [3][4].
If anyone is considering T-Mobile Home 5G Internet, you can dramatically improve your connection speeds by getting the devices to connect on the 5G n41 band, where T-Mobile has much more spectrum. Unfortunately n41 is 2500 MHz, which means it's readily absorbed by building materials. Hooking up external antennas to the hotspot requires a bit of playing with the device [1], but can be a big help.
I run https://www.waveform.com and we help a lot of folks like yourself get better signal. It's not really worth messing around with cheap options - your productivity is on the line and it's worth spending a little for great connectivity.
With that in mind, the best option is a Pepwave MAX HD2 Dual SIM. Then put a Visible SIM from Verizon in one slot and a Calyx SIM (T-Mobile) in the other, or sign up for the AT&T iPad plan. Either use whip antennas or ideally use a roof-mount 4x4 MIMO antenna to get the best signal.
Using Pepwave's VPN you can run WAN smoothing and/or bonding to make sure that your connection is rock solid.
Worth looking the LTE hacks facebook group, though they tend to use cheap gear, and I'd recommend using something beefier.
I use the Pepwave Balance 20X with the Cat12 add-on card with four SIM cards installed. AT&T is my primary provider (with a monthly usage limit of 1TB/month, no fair use limits), but I also have two T-Mobile SIMs (with "unlimited" plans, but with fair use cutoff at 50GB/month) and a Verizon SIM (50GB/month). It's a dual radio setup, so AT&T and one of the T-Mobile SIMs are always active, the other two SIMs are for fallback.
I would not recommend using the whip antennas, the roof mounted 4x4 MIMO antenna should be considered a must in my opinion.
Any recommendation for handheld / tripod-mounted directional antennas for camping/backpacking purposes? It's surely more of a niche than this RVer-heavy comments section, but if you have anything suitable to point to I'd be very interested.

If we are more reasonable and say it's running for 12 hours out of the day then that works out at a continuous 50MB/s of writes.
For comparison, My daily Linux laptop (XPS 13, 512GB Samsung NVMe SSD) has a total of 3.7 TB of writes over 3 years, this is my work dev and home laptop, it's in constant use (although no video editing):
3.7 TB / (1095 days *24*60*60) * 2**20 = 0.041 MB / s
There are three orders of magnitude difference there. I can only think of three explanations: 1. the SMART reporting is wrong, 2. MacOS or M1 SSD controllers have serious write amplification issues, or 3. you are actually doing something that does need serious write throughput like lots of video editing (your stat's aren't impossible after all).
There's an option 4:
you are running out of RAM and macOS is doing a lot of swapping.
These SSDs can probably write on the order of 3000MB/s = 0.003TB/s, so you could end up with 155 TB total writes after just 155/0.003/3600 = 14 hours of RAM heavy workload.
It would have to be a legitimately RAM heavy workload though... running out of RAM due to leaving applications open (or browser tabs open), might result in swapping out those to disk until they are used again. But the level of swapping required to generate this much write usage would essentially be using the disk as RAM, as in the running program doesn't have enough RAM, either due to needing more than physically available or due to buggy memory management.
Right, I was thinking of things like large simulations where you need to keep a large dataset in RAM and update every datapoint at every iteration.
Or maybe multiple VMs running simultaneously doing CI jobs could also do it.
I don't think simple memory errors like leaks would cause it, since that would just end up filling the disk once, but wouldn't go through writes quite as fast.
That reminds me, when SSDs first came out we'd have to set noatime on nix stuff including macs, to prevents the OS from writing file access times every time a file is read, otherwise it would cause significant write amplification. Modern SSD controllers are clever enough to make this unnecessary these days, but it could be something similar... either with the SSD controllers themselves or a file system behavior spaced just right in time to turn 1 byte into 4096 bytes of effective NAND writes - That's only 24GB of requested writes turning into 100TB in the worst case.
Yeah, that's a lot. I've got a 5-year old 512 GB Samsung PM951 that's been a system drive in 3 Windows systems with 16-64 gigs of RAM, and over the course of 6200 power cycles and 16500 hours on it has only 35 TB written and 24 TB read
How do you even get an unsafe shutdown in a notebook with a battery, unless you yank it out, or a buggy OS that will not shutdown properly/preemptively on low power?
I've got a number of unsafe shutdowns listed on my M1 MBP, too. Most likely due to the kernel panics I get when rebooting and connected to my dock in clamshell mode.
A lot of people seem to think that Starlink will compete with Comcast/Cox/Spectrum/etc in suburban areas. But it won't.
Starlink is great, and people are right to be excited about it as an option for signal in truly rural areas. But it simply won't have the capacity necessary to serve a meaningful number of users in any kind of semi-dense application.
Starlink is like a 4G/5G cellular network except there's no way to increase capacity in a specific area. That makes it great at covering areas with very low population density, but absolutely terrible for even medium-density zones.
If you're stuck in a suburban or exurban area with terrible options for broadband, your best option is likely a 4G or 5G router. There a number of different truly unlimited plans out there (e.g. Calyx). If signal isn't good enough indoors, you can purchase outdoor MIMO antennas to get better results.
Starlink is great if you're in area with very low population density. That's a lot of the US, but not a lot of the US population.
