From my understanding it wasn't started or ran by Microsoft. They have Microsoft listed as the first sponsor on their main website, for what it's worth.
Well said. I've long been a believer in computer literacy. Streamlined UX/UI has made people, especially the younger generation worse at using & troubleshooting computers. It's painfully obvious in the corporate world nowadays. Clippy to me, absolutely played a part in this.
I agree with a lot of the sentiment here about the actual app itself but I'm surprised that people aren't seeing LinkedIn for what it is, a tool. If you're a founder, LinkedIn is a great place to find talent & drive inbound sales, at minimum.
If you're not using it, I bet your competition is. Sure, the feed is terrible but look at it purely as a talent & sales pipeline. There isn't anything else like it out there.
True, but it doesn’t mean we can’t complain about its deficiencies.
I use it in the exact way you describe but I still wish all the bullshitters were banned to oblivion or that making a post cost $10 (as to enforce a minimum bar of ROI on a potentially bullshit post).
Also from this wiki page[0], identifying UPF (paraphrased by me):
Long ingredient list: Foods that contain many ingredients, especially those that could not be found in a kitchen, are likely to be ultra-processed.
Claims on the packaging: Ultra-processed foods often come in packaging with nutrition claims like "low-fat," "sugar-free," or "fortified with vitamins."
I studied economics and philosophy at a medium sized state school, yet i ended up with the software engineers because of my passion for coding. Degrees are largely just checkboxes unless you're going to MIT, Stanford, etc.
With that being said, I did use my economics degree to get my foot in the door doing data analytics then I transitioned to SWE. You'll find you way, if being a SWE is truly your passion.
