Apple has a list of all metadata that uses regular encryption instead of E2EE: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202303

I confirm there is entries mentioning "raw byte checksums". Thanks!

The linked post is incorrect, Apple Music doesn't touch or replace any local files. iTunes Match has also been DRM-free since launch.

Pixel 7 is made in China according to this tweet: https://twitter.com/vvaiibhav/status/1580454957580681216

WhatsApp runs on devices with iOS 12 or newer, that means even an iPhone 6 can still run it.

5 years of security updates, not necessarily full OS updates.

Full OS updates seem to matter less and less these days. I remember upgrading to Android 12, whose flagship feature was - a new theming system. And some rearrangement of the UI. Not really worth the downtime.

Maybe I'm just getting older. I'd rather have year over year consistency over what some committee of designers thinks is more "modern".

God forbid Google let the free software world actual make free software builds for the android reference developer hardware.

Bastards.

Unless you're being sarcastic, Google absolutely lets the free software world make free software builds for the android reference developer hardware and they have been doing this continuously & consistently since the ancient Nexus days.

Pixel 7 & 7 Pro aren't listed yet, but it's hard to imagine they aren't going to show up here: https://source.android.com/docs/setup/build/running

Google has been completely silent about it, just yesterday another person reported the 911 bug with the Pixel 6 Pro.

These two are not the same thing. Every app is allowed to serve you personalized ads, without asking. ATT is about cross app/site tracking between other companies, which is something Apple has never done.

monero, without dev tax and pre-mine, simply doesn't have the funds to compete in research with other, more well funded projects. I don't see how a different emission curve would have helped here.

MRL work is progressing on Seraphis[1] which will allow for significantly higher ring sizes without increasing the transaction size. A proof of concept is currently in development.
