There has been lots of instances of bad quality mods and mod abuse, which I assume will only become a bigger problem in the future. Having embedded community talent leave is never a good thing.
I don't think that's true. The majority of reddit users actually use reddit via third party apps and all those users will be impacted by reddit effectively shutting down all those apps. Anecdotally, I have a bunch of different friends who only use RIF and Apollo to browse reddit and say they won't use reddit anymore once those apps shutdown. They aren't vocal users advocating other people to do the same, they are just normal reddit users with low tolerance for poorly designed mobile ui's.
The estimates I've heard of percent of users who use Reddit via third party apps are 5-10%, so nowhere close to a majority. I wouldn't be surprised if for power users the fraction is much larger though.
As a user of RIF I will be very sad when they shut-down. I'm hoping there's some alternative platform I can spend time on, but it's hard to see myself fully leaving Reddit given the sheer utility of it from an information stand-point.
I'd say the fact that they write-off repeated examples of existing systems that are deployed commercially failing, and then also haven't responded with any real world examples of systems that are "nearly foolproof" as a pretty good indicator of arguing a hypothetical.
No he doesn't. His entire comment history is exactly what he's done here. Decently written but empty and contrarian for the sake of it. Engaging with this person is a waste of time, I was merely providing a public service to others that similarly value their time.
Please point out every comment I made in this thread and then point out which of those comments made “wild assumptions” and how they are “wild” based on the content of the comment being replied to.
Also, defamation does not mean what you think it means.
Seems to be the fastest and easiest thing to do. But it goes against our current paradigm of looking for perpetual growth, the government will never reverse this policy
Been outstripped by population growth. The trajectory of Ethiopia is bleak again.
No African country has ever done a "Japan" and come even close to catching up with the West. Hell, I don't think any has even been able to catch up with middle income countries. I am starting to doubt it can even be done.
To make things worse, the population will double in the coming decades, it's one of the fastest growing country in population. The government is too scared to put in place efficient 'family planning', Pakistan being one of the most religious country in the world.
It isn't quite "religion" as much as it is vast numbers of the poorly educated population using "religion" to support their highly conservative views. Religions, including the dominant one in Pakistan, have a component of social responsibility.
Pakistan too has a trend of decreasing birth rate with increasing economic power across the economic classes of people, even though all ascribe to the same religion.
Such a weird and untrue statement. Birth control is allowed in Islam. Maybe they don't trust them because of cases like the one where the CIA ran a fake vaccine program in order to collect DNA to help catch Bin Laden[0]. Or maybe it's because there isn't widespread access to healthcare. Or one of the other factors you are totally ignorant to
How come people from first world countries are more concerned about overpopulation in this world countries than your own coming underpopulation problems? What will happen is what has always happened-- people will go from crowded countries to countries where people are needed. Problem solved.
Easy trick they could do to develop quicker and lesser the level of curruption: give women more rights and power. Europe is certainly not hindering them
I have heard that Europe (and others) are promoting corruption by unholding regimes which are beneficial to businesses; the old “Banana republic” play. They might not invade to suppress communist revolutions quite as often these days, but it’s perfectly plausible that they undermine such anti-corruption efforts behind the scenes.
Is this true? I imagine that if there is easier access to guns in general then there are more sources for criminals as well. Gangs usually do not us guns were I am from.
It’s pretty easy for gangs to acquire cocaine and that’s illegal pretty much everywhere.
Even if you could wave a magic wand and disarm the American populace gangs would still be able to get guns from dirty cops, military arms dealers, or just get them from war zones. There’s virtually no accountability of the military aid that we send overseas to support our side in proxy wars.
