I thought I'd read about unbricking it. https://www.reddit.com/r/ebikes/comments/1bis770/diehard_cop... links to a private FB group that I haven't joined, but implies maybe it hasn't been solved yet. https://www.instructables.com/Build-a-Key-for-the-Copenhagen... makes me think at least one piece of the puzzle has been.

Getting my backup infrastructure to behave they way I'd want with filesystem snapshot (e.g. zfs or btrfs snapshot) was not trivial. (I think the hurdle was my particularity about the path prefix that was getting backed up.) write once pg_dumps could still have race conditions, but considerably fewer.

So, if you're using filesystem snapshots as source of backups for database, then I agree, you _should_ be good. the regular pgdumps is a workaround for other cases for me.

This question alludes to thoughts about front-yard design space. As houses get closer together, residents still want both connection and privacy. A raised area (porch, patio, etc), frequently provides this. With a raised porch that goes right to the sidewalk, a resident could move their chair close to the edge to talk to pedestrians or move chair away from sidewalk toward house for less talking.

The playborhood people did a similar thing to GP: "Mike also made another simple-but-radical move: In a neighborhood in which front yards are for admiration only, Mike installed a picnic table, close to the sidewalk, where he and his family often sat, so that people walking by would have to talk to them." https://archive.is/uLa77#selection-749.0-749.254

Thinking I could be insulated because of 10x $10 differences that I thought were close enough makes me sad. I think insulating can be fine, but hopefully your friends know you well enough to know why or you tell them explicitly. Could be in each transaction to split you making sure you're square, or doing a bulk square up.

Some therapists like specific goals like this, for fixed periods of time. Doesn't have to be open ended. Spend X weeks working through the challenges of letting this go.

Somewhat similar, I've used a smart light (Philips Hue), Home Assistant (with a ConBee II zigbee dongle), and a lighting rhythm plugin (https://github.com/claytonjn/hass-circadian_lighting) to adjust brightness and color temperature. Much more expensive, but I get other benefits, like dimming lights nicely in the evening

Not all people driving cars look left and right thoroughly before turning (but you can learn! [0]) This already leads to crashes and claims of 'coming out of nowhere'. So, practical attacks could be causing crashes. Could cause anxiety, injury, death, monetary loss, etc

Another variation I have been on both sides of: stores favoring certain channels over others. For example, a local fast-food restaurant might prioritize answering the phone for carry-out orders over in-person carry out orders.

My emergency wallet card also links to a web site with more details (e.g. recent photo of family)

Consider adding a QR code for that link.

Very nice idea to both save real estate and obfuscate URLs - I might steal it :)

I insist! Keep in mind permanence of the data (static vs dynamic QR codes). A QR code can store about 3kb worth of data (or ~4300 alphanumeric characters).

There are a lot of light bulbs, though. The LED switch has had meaningful impact on US residential energy usage [0]. IEA reports 38B in LED sales in 2015-2020 [1]. Averaging $10 (high) per bulb, that's 3.8 billion bulbs (including non-residential).

Leaving a light on doesn't matter much. Leaving billions on can clearly have an impact.

The billions of bulbs have the same proportional impact on the national energy budget as the few in your home have on yours, that is practically nothing.
