How does that work when nicotine products that are every bit as addictive as tobacco exist, maybe you're just not aware of them? Sitting here with non tobacco snus (Swedish nicotine pouch) under my top lip, something I have been utterly unable to quit. I believe "nicotine free" tobacco would be completely non addictive.
tobacco contains MAO inhibiting compounds, which potentiate nicotine and increase addiction potential. that doesnt mean nicotine on its own isnt insanely addictive, i have no idea what the guy youre responding to is talking about. however, MAOIs were withdrawn as antidepressants for a good reason - they have a terrible withdrawal all on their own.
this article isnt as relevant as when it was written. eg regarding price, cigarette taxation has skyrocketed in certain countries. furthermore, the depicted studies were performed prior to the proliferation of disposable vapes - i somehow doubt that the idea of infinite nicotine on tap was accounted for. as to your question, some individuals find cutting down to be easier than cold turkeying. personally i opt for the latter, although this strategy should not be universally applied (eg. alcohol withdrawal may induce seizures). at the end of the day i find smoking (not vaping or gum) to be a net neutral - controlled motivation, treatment of schizophrenia symptoms, and neuroprotectivity are balanced out by addiction potential, shortening of lifespan, and reduced red blood cell count.

If you think of your abdomen as a bag full of tubes, a fistula is a hole in the tube that connects to something else. A hernia is a hole in the bag, that the tube can poke through.
Thanks, they seem like more than just random splashes of color.. possibly I'm anthropomorphising but it feels like it was straining to draw something specific like a young child would.

Not sure what the background of the author is, but this essay/lecture note discusses ego or literal self-awareness of apes contrasted against human children, using quotes from books. Apparently apes don't exhibit explosive growth of vocabulary, show use of syntax etc etc, and are therefore not able to acquire language. The post later also argues their ego may be on the edge of formulating but must be weak/incomplete.
There's also magazine excerpt[3] on a page on relevant Kyoto University research center comparing an inpainting task done by a chimpanzee and a human child of 3 years old, showing that chimpanzees can only recognize and trace existing patterns, whereas kids go and complete the face with eyes, nose and mouth.
I agree there is intent there, but it doesn't look like an effort to draw a still life, more like the chimp was fascinated with the patterns and techniques it could manipulate.
Yes, same with Koko. I think they do not fully understand art and
abstraction, nor profits made by good art. It is too abstract.
They can, however had, understand sign language and symbol language,
and basically that art is also an abstraction. Will probably take a
while before we can identify abstract art by apes.
I configured gnome to look like win 95/98, tried to use it for a while but the novelty wore off quite fast. Weirdly the mouse pointer still looks like win95 randomly in certain applications, guess I didn't clean up thoroughly!
First time hearing about this, couldn't find any info about who is behind this or if it's a real project with a chance of success. I hope it is, carrying around an incredibly powerful computer in my pocket but not allowed to use it the way I want because google/apple says no sucks, we need this.
