GoodReads has lists pretty locked up for me. Discovery isn't perfect but Selectist seems to be more of what we already have. I'd love to see some innovation here though. Maybe some exhaustive normalized tagging and filtering (AND, OR, NOT).
Unfortunately in SF $ can apparently mean $15 for a sandwich and says absolutely nothing about the price of their happy hour beer. The thing is that I really don't want similar places, I want to know which places have a happy hour and how much a beer is. More specifically, I want to know the closest place offering dollar beer.
I really enjoyed reading this. It's clever and well done and honestly makes me like the rap genius guys more for responding in kind.
As for why op is publicly posting a private email thread, it wouldn't be surprising for both sides to agree to post this content. Despite the slightly brutal reply at the end, rap genius doesn't come off looking bad at all.
Those questions would be answered by a landing page that shows you what you'd be paying for. There's much better tools for data extraction and automation available today than in the recent past and this market sounds like a great category for disruption.
Startups often neglect competitor analysis because it's not available cheaply. If you could get 85% of the value automatically that's worth paying for.
Hmmm... I was planning on doing the research manually, but if you want to share any examples of sites that have gotten better at data extraction, I'm all ears. I will do research as well on that.
At that price, it doesn't seem like you would be able to provide much value by doing it manually. If you factor in some overhead, you would have to be spending less than an hour on each report to pay yourself a decent wage. If I'm running a business, I'm not going to pay someone to do research that I could do myself in less than an hour, even if it is really cheap. With B2B services, it's probably a better idea to provide substantial and demonstrable value than it is to have a really low price.

2nd to last paragraph mentioned this which seems like the real issue behind this whole article. Receiving a couple of security emails a day isn't a problem but the fake activity sounds like it's bad for regular users.
No idea how to stop something like this though, maybe put up a page for bounty hunters with some clear guidelines on how they're expected to act?
I appreciate the feedback, guys; this project was just a 48-hour diversion which I figured had stand-alone merit, but I'll be sure to take your comments to heart vis-a-vis my other work.
