SEEKING WORK - US Remote (Philadelphia)

I love helping companies resurrect old Rails apps. If your app hasn't been touched in a while, has big performance problems, or just needs some new features, I'd love to help you out.

You need to build a backend for your mobile app, but you don't have the time to do it right. I'll build and manage your backend API so you don't have to worry about it, and we'll work together to help "futureproof" your app, to help you remotely manage your app, rather than constantly resubmitting it.

SEEKING WORK - Remote (based in Philadelphia, PA)

I build and manage custom backends for mobile apps: so if you have an app that needs server/cloud infrastructure behind it, you can focus on your app, while I focus on the backend that powers it.

For me, reading blog posts helped build my confidence to be able to ask for higher rates—seeing that lots of other people charge over $100/hr can really help to convince yourself that you're worth that.

You are right though, that reading blog posts is not going to create that change—for me it really came the first time I said what I thought was a high rate ($135/hr), and there was no pushback at all from the client. I was kind of amazed at first that they thought I was worth it, but with one success in the bag, it gave me the confidence to move forward.

Some more recommendations: the book "Apollo" by Charles Murray and Catherine Bly Cox is really excellent as an overview of everything that it took to get to the moon, as is the HBO mini-series "From The Earth to the Moon"

You can even collapse the first one into a single command: "git pull remotename master"

And the second one too: "git pull --rebase remotename master"

Note that in this case, your remote tracking branches wont be updated, so git status will say you are ahead of the remote, while you are in fact at the same point.

A "git fetch <remote>" would then update the remote tracking branches.

Not sure if it does exactly the same thing, but on GitHub, if you add ?w=1 to the end of a diff URL, it'll show it with whitespace ignored.

We're using Ansible, and so far I've really been liking it. Super simple to set up, and the syntax is extremely easy to write and follow.

The first beta of iOS 7 is only available for iPhone. I'm guessing they're not done with the iPad version yet.
