LEX Markets | Backend Engineer - Node, Product Manager | New York, NY | Onsite or Remote | https://lex-markets.com

LEX is a new way to invest in real estate. LEX turns individual buildings into public stocks. Any US investor can open a LEX account, browse opportunities in various asset classes such as multifamily and office buildings, and buy shares of individual buildings. As a shareholder, investors earn income when owners pay dividends and can trade their shares on our public market without lockups or hold periods. Each building on LEX has a ticker symbol and stock chart.

We’ve built:

- A retail brokerage app to trade shares of real estate

- A dealflow operation to take buildings public

- An SEC-filed ATS on which those shares can trade

We're a small company (~ 30 people, 10 engineers) with some great backers working to unlock real estate for the masses.

Tech Stack: Node, Express, Mongo, Redis, React, Typescript

I think the right way to bring this to market is a snap-on macbook pro display:

>Imagine if you could do legitimate work for 4 straight hours while sitting in the park.

If that work involves scrolling or anything like that, I imagine those "4 straigt hours" having the productivity of 30 minutes in a regular display.

Awesome!

Hacking the startup job search at its finest.

As someone whose inbox has been on the receiving end of some funding announcements recently, this crunchbase method is definitely used more outside of job searching: recruiters, sales folks, etc, all love to jump on a funding announcement.

Wish more engineers, designers and product people used this approach - nothing better than an inbound candidate who gives a shit and can growth hack.

Finding the person who can make hiring decisions or at least can advocate for you is so much easier than having to play the lottery of submitting a job application blindly.

It lets you present your value, show you can communicate well and that you really want to work there.

If you just drop a generic cover letter, that's low-effort. If you spend the 10 - 15 minutes to write a good, succinct message on how you think you can help and that you are interested in the company, that's huge in my opinion.

I think I have done it in total about 5 times and gotten hired twice from it which isn't a bad success rate!

---

With all of that said, there is a certain size where this strategy stops being viable but I am not sure where.

As a company gets bigger, it would definitely become less likely to work in my opinion but inversely, I think the smaller they are, the better it will work.

"Don't let perfect be the enemy of good"

An arrow <-- uptown downtown --> could work in most spots. Or an accurate compass that is tilted 20 degrees from the actual streets, still helpful. Or:

       36th
        ^
        |
9th<-- 35&8 -->7th

        |
        v
       34th

Streets would be much more useful than a true north compass.
