YouTube doubled in hours of video watched last year going from 500m to 1 billion hours daily. FB total video is 100m hours. So Google added 5x FB total. Netflix was about 128 million hours daily.

So Google should get to 1 out of 3 pretty quickly.

Youtube has some really good content creators, and apparently they are getting paid. I've actually subscribed to a few channels finally that I look forward to seeing new releases in (CGP Grey, YSAC).

My 7yo son is obsessed with the whole Let's Play phenomenon, and other associated minecraft content. I've looked up some of these people on Social Blade[1][2], and some of these people are likely making millions, but I can't fault the system. While the content of some isn't exceptional, it is professional, and some of these people keep up that pace for multiple content releases each day.

Content creators are mastering chopping up content into separate videos with enough continuity and hooks to keep people clicking next video, next video, next video...

It's quite scary actually what the current and future generations are being conditioned to do.

Have you heard of soap operas?

I agree the parent poster was being dramatic. Soap operas, however, make you wait until the following day to see what happened.

How is this different to a YouTuber? They (at least the ones I have seen) release their Videos daily (or less often) as well and sometimes with different Content on different days. So you might even have to wait 2 Days or even a week to get the new episode of the Series you where watching.

It's true that you can binge on a series if you are new to the series (youtube or otherwise) but if you are up to date that is no longer the case.

That's a good point. I find that there is an almost limitless supply of entertainment online these days, as opposed to 5 channels and 6 Disney VHS tapes in my youth.

I don't think I could have resisted the compulsion to be on YouTube for all of my free time. I am lucky that there is a ton of social pressure on me to spend my time doing other activities.

It could be a personal problem, unique to me and a small amount of other people.

But Google is also 22 years younger? Google passed $100b market cap at age 7 and Apple at 29. Google other as in non ad revenues in 2016 at age 18 is greater than all of Apple revenues when they were the same age. Plus Google grew income by 29% last quarter and Apple earnings have declined over the last two years.

Google broke $100B market cap at seven years old. Apple mail did it at 29 years old. Google never has declined for a single quarter YoY since day 1. Not a single time.

Apple had $2.33 EPS for Q2 2015 and for Q2 2017 reported $1.90 EPS. So declined over the last 2 years.

Google other revenues (non ad) were over $10B for 2016 and growing at 50%. Apple total revenues in 2004 when it was 28 years old were less than just Google other. Just sayin.

Btw, Google holds the record of getting to $100B cap faster than any other. Even accounting for inflation.

Google Home with YouTube is amazing. I say play Gwen Bottle and get Gwen Stefanni sing Message in a bottle. Or say play One Love Peas and get Blach Eye Peas ad One Love concert. What are you talking about?

What I have heard about Facebook infrastructure it would better with Google cloud than Amazon.

Chrome won not because of pure marketing. Chrome is a very good browser is why.

Also have a R11 Chromebook and love it. I do use Crouton but been also using GNUroot as does not require developer.

What I love is being able to do cloud development (Linux) on a commercial laptop.

I wish Google would push this harder as a great dev solution. My biggest gripe is small storage on most CBs. Plus no sdcard access from containers on the R11. Also all Android runs in same container.

Microsoft is really getting desperate. Saw similar propaganda recently with Chromebooks. Guess going back to their old MO.

Seems like a steal for $9B. Would have thought more. This is pretty big. But what does it say Whole Foods and then Slack?

Crazy world and incredible compression in business. The Internet did exact opposite of what thought would happen.

Over 60k stars on github for TF. It won.

If people weren't lemmings, that would be a valuable indicator. But, it turns out that...
