We’re looking to fill a bunch of roles on our Tech team. I’m a front-end developer working on the Digital Experience team and love working here. We're currently working on a brand new responsive site with React, complete with reusable component library to facilitate our work. Stack includes Javascript (Node, React, Backbone) and Python.
Warby Parker is a transformative lifestyle brand with a lofty objective: to offer designer eyewear at a revolutionary price while leading the way for socially conscious businesses. By engaging directly with consumers, we’re able to offer ultra-high-quality, vintage-inspired frames for $95 including prescription lenses and shipping. We focus on the bigger picture, too: social innovation is woven into the DNA of our company, and for every pair of glasses purchased, a pair is distributed to someone in need.
I spent the last four years doing web development while on playing drums in multiple touring bands. I got to travel abroad for free, and meet great people through it.
Unfortunately I remember very little of this time because I was taking on freelance projects to make side money and using mobile broadband to work in the van. It was incredibly stressful and one of the worst ideas. Multitasking the two jobs just burned me out quicker.
I wish I had planned it all out better so I could actually enjoy it fully. If you're going to travel, make sure you have the time to actually experience it.
For what it's worth I've really enjoyed some of your output during that time though, I was actually listening to one of the o pioneers pink couch recording earlier today. Sorry to hear it burned you out though, I can definitely see how that'd happen trying to tour and work freelance simultaneously.
triangleman, I'm not sure why I was hellbanned. After 100+ days of lurking and a handful posts/comments, I decided today to start trying to start participating again. My comment history is pretty vanilla, with one random link that I don't remember even posting on the Uber article and didn't even make any sense in the context of the article.
Also, there was never a deleted offensive comment on my account, so I'm not sure why I would be hell-banned. Is there anything I can do to reverse this?
All: please follow the HN guidelines and email us (hn@ycombinator.com) rather than posting in the threads. There are two reasons: (a) it's the only reliable way to get things like this fixed, and (b) these meta-subthreads add noise.
I'm dealing with that right now. Completely negating someone's opinion only shuts down communication. It's all in the phrasing and makes it sound like you are on different teams, especially in a work environment.
I think that's a great approach, especially when handling a new client. The worst situation is landing a client who also personally designed or developed the last iteration of their website or app. They need to be dislodged from the work they've done and sometimes that takes kid gloves.
