> First, a lot of English-speaking countries place lower importance on veggies.
Which ones? In the US, we are told to eat our veggies because they are good for you. The problem in the US is that something forced women into the workplace and families are resorting to easy processed meals like microwave dinners, fast food, etc.
Conversely I found it way easier to eat "healthy" in the US due to the popularity of flash frozen vegetables.
In college I would buy a bag of pre-cut flash frozen vegetables suitable for a stir fry and just dump that into the wok and throw some sauce & protein.
Abroad where people eat fresh vegetables I had the habbit of ordering food delivery everyday because I'm not going to waste 1 hour of my life every day washing & cutting vegetables and the knife and the cutting board etc.
> What supernatural being descended on earth and gave governments the supreme right to own the path from earth into space.
'Listen. Strange supernatural beings descending on earth is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses...'
> OK, so, if you could launch from a ship in the middle of the ocean you would be free to launch as you wish?
Couldn't that possibly be mistaken by countries around the world as an icbm launch. Given that danger, I'm pretty sure no private company would be allowed to launch rockets without government approval. But I'm just guessing.
In 1995 a scientific sub-orbital rocket was launched from Andøya in Norway. It got a little bit out of planned course and for some reason the message informing the Russians about the launch had not reached the radar controllers which just saw a rocket heading for Russia on their screens. It was total chaos and the nuclear briefcase were brought to Jeltsin. Luckily the rocket fell in the ocean after a few minutes and nuclear war was averted.
Uh, you are aware that one leg of the nuclear triad are submarine launched ICBMs. That's about as "launched from the middle of an ocean" with no idea who launched it as you can get. That would exactly look like an ICBM launch at first.
Because of microsoft office ( particularly excel ). It's just as simple as that. I remember years ago people thought that google's free office/spreadsheet offering was going to be the end of microsoft office/excel. I remember having a good laugh back then. The business world, especially finance, runs on microsoft office. I just don't see it changing anytime soon. It's amazing how entrenched it is.
Apple and Microsoft are trillion dollar companies ( both nearing $3 trillion market caps ). They can afford it. Heck they have the balance sheet to acquire both tsmc and samsung if either were up for sale.
I thought Apple was moving towards being a full-stack company. Where all the hardware and software is developed in-house. If anyone has the resources, it is apple.
> I thought Apple was moving towards being a full-stack company. Where all the hardware and software is developed in-house. If anyone has the resources, it is apple.
Having a modern chip fab binds an insane amount of capital, and makes you much more vulnerable in case of market turbulences. This is exactly a reason why there exist people who like to claim that Intel should spin off their fabs.
And we want all the names of the people who own you. It's always the hysterically pro-israel ( and anti-american ) politicians who behave this way. Funny how she says it will prevent russian, iranian and chinese bots, but no mention of indian or israeli bots. Modern politics is so absurd. An indian american woman who hates america and but loves israel. How do one even begin to make sense of this craziness?
> But in the 60s Detroit was the tech capital of America and California was for movie stars, beatniks, and farmers.
By the 60s, northern california was already a tech hub. Stanford university was around for nearly a century by then and initial inventment in silicon valley was already decades old as was the JPL. Also, nyc-metro was the tech capitabl back then. Bell labs was located right outside of nyc for a reason.
Mr Griffin should learn about 'geography is destiny' and take a look at a map. Manhattan is situated smack in the middle of the population center that is the ny metro area and more broadly the northeast. Not to mention the top universities of the world harvard, yale to princeton, upenn and the dozens of world class universities in between. And the northeast is geographically a lot closer to europe and european financial capitals than miami is.
What has miami to offer? World class college football teams in florida? Is Tim Tebow going to be running 'goldman sachs south'? Will the miami-havana link replace the nyc-london link?
Miami is a 2.5 hour flight direct from almost every major airport on the east coast. It is beautiful year round. Sorry, but I don't really want my face to hurt when I step outside December through March.
> Miami is a 2.5 hour flight direct from almost every major airport on the east coast. It is beautiful year round.
Yes. You just described a wonderful vacation destination. Not a financial capital.
> Sorry, but I don't really want my face to hurt when I step outside December through March.
I'd be more worried about hurricanes and flooding than cold manhattan wind.
You just ignored all my points with silly nonsense. Are all the top universities going to migrate south too? Are tens of millions of people going to move to miami as well?
I don't think most meat eaters these days have seen a pig that you had around slaughtered and butchered? A chicken? Eaten most of either, including brain, liver, marrow? It's been 35 years and I still remember.
It's an entirely different experience than buying that juicy, red, CO packed cut at the supermarket.
It's ok to not care but I wouldn't call this piece slander pushing an agenda, it's what it means to eat meat but most have forgotten because it's so removed.
Forgotten? Most people never knew and have no clue as to where their meat comes from, the specializations existing at each stage of life - and the farms dedicated to each stage, and how the meat is slaughtered. Honestly, I think it's for the best they don't know, otherwise they would be appalled.
Why wouldn't we? What are we going to do about it? Nothing. It's just like youtube platforms videos discussing how bad social media is for your mental health. Or oil companies funding 'green' tech. Or a newspaper writing about how bad news is for you.
'News is bad for you – and giving up reading it will make you happier'
They are all large media companies controlled by the same group of elites.
In a totalitarian system, the elites carse about what you think. In a dystopian system, the elites don't care.
So random house published herman and chomsky? And? What happened since? It's like food industry being paranoid about people finding out about how sausage is made. People find out. People keep on eating sausage. Heck it's free advertising.
> At the end of the Cold War, I enlisted in the Navy because it was a good opportunity; there was no ambiguity regarding the bad guys; the military leadership was good; the elected leadership was generally tolerable.
Sounds like you received a healthy dose of cold war propaganda.
> I'm no longer able to encourage the youth to follow in my footsteps, as the opposite of the above is generally the case.
You sure about that? Because the same leadership, military and political, are in power as they were at the end of the cold war. Nothing changed in the US after the cold war because we won.
I think you have to come to terms on who the bad guys real were. The soviets weren't the evil empire. The evil empire is the one that beat the soviets. Or maybe the eviler empire beat the evil empire.
Doesn't matter what you think. It's a fact. No revolution swept the old guard from power. The system didn't change. I explained this to you.
> When the Berlin Wall fell, which direction did the foot vote move?
The wealthier side. You seem to mistake wealth with goodness.
Using your logic, because poor north koreans migrate to china or poor egyptians migrate to saudi arabia, it must mean china and saudi arabia are the good guys. That's the dumbest logic I've seen.
Between the soviet union and the US, the evil side exterminated a continent full of natives and dropped nuclear weapons. I'll let you figure out which side was the evil one. Anyway, thanks for your service killer.
