One of the cons for Signal, sending unencrypted SMS messages is being removed soon: https://signal.org/blog/sms-removal-android/

Bummer. That feature made Signal a really compelling main messenger app.

Indeed, but the man hours involved was quite surprising to me. Some work was per platform, some per cellular provider, some per country, etc.

Also it's less confusing for users if they can say "if you use signal, it's encrypted", unless of the confusing and hard to support decision tree, which is made doubly confusing because Signal uses phone numbers are part of your identity.

The virtue of it was that you could tell your less-clued-in friends and relatives to "just replace your SMS app with Signal and use it all the time", and they would; the hope being that mass usage would create a virtuous smokescreen of innocuous encrypted communication, so that people who actually had secrets to discuss would not stand out.

Perhaps this is less important now that idiosyncratic messenger apps seem to have become well-accepted? I don't know, anymore, how easy it would be for the NSA or some other evil adversary to single out Signal traffic.

I saw burnout happen to a few guys around me, the work was pretty interesting but constantly moving goal posts caused a great deal of undue stress at work. I was also preparing to undergo a big change in my personal life too so decided to quit with a month’s notice. I’ve been off work since mid September and did a week long silent meditation retreat, walked/solo wild camped the Pennine Way for 16 days and spent some time in Rwanda exploring at my own pace.

In between i’ve been cycling, reading and working on things I neglected for the past few years. I feel much better for it

Today I’m going to polish my CV up and have started letting my network know I’m keen to work again. I have a better sense of what I want to do this time and tools to prevent as much stress in future

Thanks for your hard work in making the transition from psycopg2 to psycopg3 as simple and painless as possible, Daniele!

It's also becoming possible to grow plants hydroponically in a highly automated and controlled environment (warehouse/cattle shed), with up to a 98% saving in treated water usage, 60% less nutrients required but with more nutritious crops and no pesticides. This is the case for High Pressure Aeroponics, which is slightly more complex than other hydroponic methods.

That's an interesting point, but isn't it also true that hydroponics are currently just not a very economically feasible option?

Depends on the crop. I know a lot of lettuce is grown Hydroponically. (but its basicly cellulose and water to begin with).

I've not read your reply, and acknowledge that others say it was on excellent read. Do you not though think it ironic that in a thread about narcissism you have the longest blog post about someone's life (I've seen on HN) after they've essentially alluded to having been humbled.

However when you read it, you find that the writer talks not at all about their own accomplishments.

Spider plants are one of my favourites, you can get them from pretty much any garden centre and they are easy to propagate/maintain. It's almost impossible to kill Mother-in-law's tongue. Dracaenas look great, too

Great tool! CloudHarmony is good too: https://cloudharmony.com/

Good read, but why is CSS linked at the end of the page?
