I'm not sure Pakistan is comparable to Imperial Japan.

> (Source: [before the inevitable downvotes] am Indian.)

How does that relate to downvotes after saying something like that?

(I'm saying that both sides dropping nukes on each other would be a good thing. I'm adding credibility to that statement by saying I have skin in the game. I'm expecting downvotes because my post is anti-pacifist.)

> Europe doesn't have the capacity to impose a no-fly zone on Russia. I doubt even US could pull that off.

I'm not sure about that.

Let me put it this way. US has a strong enough military that it could do so if it really wanted, but it would involve a lot of casualties. I doubt that the American public would be willing to sustain the amount it would require.

So, you would rather keep mistreating them, because if we stopped mistreating them today it would mean they'd be slaughtered tomorrow? I'm quite sure what the cows would choose.

I recently started a ML project using text data and the choice was between MySQL and Postgres. Having looked at the respective features and pros and cons, the choice was immediately obvious. Also, with pgvector and https://postgresml.com available, the choice for Postgres was even easier.

Why not MongoDB?

The question should be the other way around: why mongodb? It’s not ACID compliant so has major down sides…

I guess they didn’t need anything web scale.

Because it's web scale...

I preordered it and read it with the expectation of getting great sci-fi about kraken and got something else entirely. The focus is on many things, but not on sci-fi and kraken, so it is one of the weaker books in this area, sadly. I finished it, but it was a slog.

They're also developing a gui: https://duckdb.org/2025/03/12/duckdb-ui.html

Not the worst website I've seen by far.

I have also come to this conclusion. Consciousness might be an evolutionary dead end.

Cows are quite intelligent.

At this point I would refuse to travel to the USA at all, not only for vacation, but also for work. Imagine being locked up for weeks or months because you need to visit the us-based office.

Or being shipped to some concentration camp in El Salvador, in hopes it is not upgraded to death camp.
