I totally agree. I use java for every possible coding script or task. I have been using it in my company for last 5+ years and have understood the language too well to be able to switch to something else and learn its caveats. In my comfort zone with java and I love that its being actively developed and improved every day.

Are you in the comfort zone with Spring as well?

I can only speak for myself, but I was lucky to be exposed to Spring Boot back in the v1.5 days after spending a few years creating Java programs without any framework. No XML at all, configuration by code, and opinionated default configuration that covers most use cases.

The learning curve was not that hard, and I got comfortable with it.

In contrast, I find React, Next.js and other frameworks more complex, and it takes a lot longer to be comfortable

But won't it add an additional hop hence additional latency to every single request ?

Nah, because the Cloudflare Workers run at closest edge location and are real fast.

The real solution with Cloudflare is to use their Load Balancing (https://developers.cloudflare.com/load-balancing) which is a paid feature.

did you try running a simple bash curl loop instead of manually printing. The data and statistics will be become exactly clear. Because i want to understand how to ensure my clients get the nearest edge data center

Really good article about retries, its consequences and how load amplification works. Loved it

Java for the win. Have used java for any kind of programming or running shell commands or literally anything since last 5 years professionally and personally.

Language is just a tool, anything and everything works if you love it enough

java as a bash replacement is certainly a take I've never heard before...

In fairness, Java is still pretty slow to start. If you're looking for non-traditional "scripting" languages, you might look into Erlang. 'erl_call' is a particularly interesting little helper script that's packed into the standard system.

Sounds like you’d be interested JRuby :)

need a easy way to do restore to previous version offline. take 100 bucks extra if required to have a backup ssd. Don’t want to be camping and then realizing i’m stuck because of some junior dev not being competent enough

Why would you intentionally upgrade your vehicle software while camping? It’s not like this stuff installs automatically, you have to explicitly accept the installation. Waiting a few days or even a few weeks before hitting “install” is completely normal.

Good to know. But how often are they going to do it ? Is it going to be an annual event from now on ?

Depends on funding. Ask your employer to pitch in!
