That article states
> Although we haven't tested each of the longest-range models under our own EV highway range testing procedure, we've provided the data where possible.
I don't think Tesla is as far ahead on range as everyone thinks. Highway miles are what matters and Tesla tends to be optimistic on their numbers.
I remember calculating the cost efficiency of adding a sun tracking mount to some panels. It turned out that the increased power would be about the same as adding an additional panel and one panel was cheaper than the mount. The mount also would only help half the year and the extra panel would help the whole year.
But would the sun-tracking mount also let you shed dust buildup? That might make it worth it for long term missions. My next idea after blowers for removing dust was to just flip the panel vertical for a bit...
It appears, once again, the people trying to refine the word are accusing the people keeping the historical usage as the changers. It's projection all the way down.
Ironically, the 6 hour Fundamentals of Engineering test that I took after earning my EE degree had a section on Discounted Cash Flow. It is funny that you are using it now to explain why taking that has given me no utility so far.
I have an EE degree and was in embedded for a few years. I kept getting hired for that one problem, then was no longer needed. All the jobs I could find were short term contract work or "Thanks for fixing that, now we don't need you" situations. I still get emails about short term, in office work in the Midwest. I enjoyed the work but I couldn't find stable employment. Embedded worked out to be a good transition to software and then web development though.
Funny that Musk is famous for catering to those human urges. Fast car! Big rocket! He even talks about rewarding limbic impulses and I am convinced that is why he is so successful.
One aspect that is often overlooked is the possibility of having labor represented at the executive level. The people doing the work have good idea about how to improve the product or what changes will be bad for the product. I always heard that unions leads to greater quality and I think it is because that greater voice lets you push back when management askes you to cut corners.
