I think this is too harsh. Generally yes, but there are good people like myself who do care. Yes we are rare but we do exist and more than 'nobody'.

Really great advice. There are some managers out there like myself who do care about your career. It's one reason I got into management- to be different and better than other managers who never think about it.

Conversely GitLab was well positioned to take the space but then went and ruined their opportunity too.

The writing was on the wall when they tried to implement invasive telemetry on users, following an investment offer. They did walk back on it due to community backlash and boycott. But if history has shown us anything, corporate retreat happens only on account of loss of good will and brand value. Once the intent is established, they'll keep looking for other ways to satisfy it. The only difference between that incident and Microsoft's acquisition of GitHub is that the latter was a much louder signal about what was to follow.

How did they do this exactly?

MATE is my primary desktop distro... I hope someone can step up. Unfortunately I don't have the time or skills to help. Not sure what alternative I would have if it ends.

Worst case scenario if Ubuntu MATE is discontinued, you can switch to Linux Mint MATE. AFAIK, Linux Mint MATE does not depend on Ubuntu MATE.

Ahhh good to know. Thanks!

Let's just hope this helps their service and doesn't lead to them making it worse. I love Digital Ocean. The UI and the service itself is great. API is nice too.

Yup and loved it. I like Gosling too and he was awesome in this too.

I completely agree. I didn't read the book but the science the made sense to me. But then maybe I was able to fill in details mentally.

Oh this is neat! I've put off ripping and encoding because it is so much manual work.

There is nothing wrong with red meat, it certainly isn't carcinogenic.

I have mine! Good to see other operators. Check out 44Net - right up our alley!
