Programmers don't suffer from a lack of leverage and bargaining power.

I regularly renegotiate my salary and benefits, and I have no desire to share any of that with a union.

If you are a programmer and you are not making what you think you deserve you have no one to blame but yourself.

You must work in finance.

I don't work in finance but it's a common enough conclusion to draw. It's not hard to agree with your parent comment.

I said essentially the same thing: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=12771478

Which industries do nice people get promoted in?

Medicine.

Not really. You'll find plenty of nice doctors and nurses but hospital administration is the same political jerkfest as anywhere else. Maybe worse because the "nice guy" doctors and nurses are less likely to fight back. Also the doctors and nurses who want to get things done learn pretty quick to stop being so "nice".

Same happens with education.

Reread what I wrote. But, this time, stop at the comma:

You do not have to be a callous jackass...

Credit agencies?

I am constantly dumbfounded when I see "lean" startups shelling out for macbooks.

If you really want to save money and run a lean operation go linux.

This is not a suprise to anyone that has been following the IoT trend for a couple years.

That is what happens when women choose not to study computer science.

Most people are dumb and apathetic.

Why does that still surprise you?

Bitcoin is dying a slow death.

Her nipple ring was pretty cool. My girlfriend got one like it not long after.

Just read the thread, the apologists are already here.
