you should read Cameron & Quinn. It's about work culture. IF you have a very rule based culture, it could be completely wrong if you want to create and be adaptable. You will simply not have good relationships then and people will be miserable. That kind of culture is more suitable to work that is all about ensuring rules are followed, like a controlling organ. For software dev, it's poison.

I started to smoke because it looked cool. Just like in the movies, in black and white. But in reality I did not look as good, it was expensice and bad for my health and my teeth got yellow. So I thought the only way to solve this is to transport myself into those old movies somehow. I could just be smoking away, looking great.

This is really hillarious. It reminds me of Ask the Dust and Ham on Rye, where the protagonist lacks abit of self awareness but has plenty of confidence

That is absolutely wonderful! I've also ordered the book "Wonders and Rarities". I love reading about an unexplored world full of wonder, but it's difficult to find good books about such esoteric things.

I agree with most of what you are saying in you posts. I'm not sure it's only fear, but a lack of abstract thinking. I recommend you to look up Cynefin, which is a strategy for making decisions. People can't and won't speculate or change their mind if they lack the capabilities to do so.

Because you are reducing it and devaluing it to something you think you understand. if you understand humans as "jumbles of molecules and atoms..." then you don't understand humans. it's not a point of view. You even end your comment with another similar statement intended to display your "expertise"

Stop using AWS! Linode was great for me up untill they got bought and now they have been doing abrupt "maintenance" work and stuff that Linode never did. But AWS is killing the world and so does companies like Akamai. We need to use pure VPS services and keep moving and not take any shit. I'm sick of it. VPS services should be state-run/owned to end this nonsense.

it's completely normal to take part in gossip. in fact, it's a social skill. if you are afraid of what people say about you, then you are probably the problem here. i'm not going to go into why gossip isn't the worst thing in the world, but there are different levels of bad mouthing.

being late is also very normal. again, maybe it is you who are not being clear about your expectations or, more likely, are reading too much into it.

> if you are afraid of what people say about you, then you are probably the problem here

This is such a harmful sentiment for people who are socially awkward and/or anxious to be exposed to.

only givers think that way. Sometimes it's not best to pass the ball but take a shot

That's not actually true. If you look at personality tests based on Big 5/Neo-Pi, which are the most accepted in psychology, scores on conscientiousness and the underlying factors like "order" can be completely opposite to the parents

>can be

Yes, "can". Because we are not clones of our parents. It doesn't mean that conscientiousness hasn't something like 60-80%of hereditability.

again, that's not true. It can be argued that it can't be proven beyong 50%, which means that it's a toss-up and parents with low conscientiousness have children with high scores. Also, this trait is not indicative to success, even if it correlates. Too high is also a negative, just as too low is.

Studies say 20-70% for different measures.
