I understand apple's push for US manufacturing in general but what do they mean by AI servers? I thought apple's current AI strategy is using other AI models?

Private Cloud Compute uses their own hardware: https://security.apple.com/blog/private-cloud-compute/

Thanks! I wonder how they enforce retention of personal data if a user adds identifying data and they use a model from anthropic or wtv like others said. maybe that is the wrong question at all if they are using their own models but i thought they didn't. Apple's AI strategy on the whole sounds coherent to me but the specifics are super confusing.

I believe they're choosing to run Google models on their hardware.

They are using M workstation class chips for inference on their own blades since Google's models are meant run on TPU's it would not have been difficult to port it.

They also use Anthropic internally (code/marketing/sales) which runs their models on Cerebras so they also seem to be agnostic so runs on the same Apple hardware.

AI is what??

why use that specific word though?

Don't be surprised or shocked to encounter metaphors and hyperbole as you read. It's part of standard English communication.

I haven't heard that word used as a metaphor or hyperbole since I stopped playing on call of duty in 2014...

Weird that the hacker news community wants to stick to it. Yall need to grow up. Because I know you would not use it as a metaphor or hyperbole at work.

Defending it makes you look immature.

i disagree. content is great. hitting back button messes stuff up for me. a long form article is preferred for me but maybe this is better for people used to swiping.

a lot of artists don't mind use AI for art outside their field

I was in a fashion show in tokyo in 2024.

i noticed their fashion was all human designed. but they had a lot of posters, video, and music that was AI generated.

I point blank asked the curator why he used AI for some stuff but didn't enhance the fashion with AI. I was a bit naive because I was actually curious to see if AI wasn't ready for fashion or maybe they were going for an aesthetic. I genuinely was trying to learn and not point out a hypocrisy.

he got mad and didn't answer. i guess it is because they didn't want to pay for everything else. big lesson learned in what to ask lol.

How do you know he used AI in one area but not another?

cause i asked him where he used comfyui and he mentioned the things i mentioned, but he didn't mention the fashion and then i asked my question.

ah that makes sense. I thought it was maybe a scenario where they are just good at fashion designs but make "average" looking posters.

A few people i looked up and found in the dataset don't pop up in this. Don't want to mention who here of course...

but the other people cc'ed in the particular emails i found do pop up though. weird.

I thought i learned to forget how to type. knew i wasn't going crazy.

edit: another apple issue i have been hearing about recently is that the apple watch alarm just doesn't work some days. i have no idea why.

i don't have silent mode on when it happens. i have tried so many different settings to fix it. ended up buying the hatch alarm.

I miss the wisp

As damning as these comments are, this comment kinda scared because it reminds me of the times when judges decide against applying empathy against society's most marginalized.

Hopefully as these models get better, we get to a place where judges are pressured to apply empathy more justly.

I thought i understood complex numbers and accepted them until I did countour integration for the first time.

Ever since then I have been deeply unsettled. I started questioning taking integrals to (+/-) infinity, and so I became unsettled with R too.

If C exists to fix R, then why does R even exist? Why does R need to be fixed? Why does the use of the upper or lower plane for counter integration not matter? I can do mathematically why, but why do we have a choice?

This blog post really articulated stuff formally that I have been bothered by for years.

I have a reading list of a bunch of papers i didn't get through over the past 2 years. it is crazy how many papers on this list are completely not talked about anymore.

I kinda regret going through the SeLU paper lol back in the late 2010s.
