That's funny. Code in Ontario Canada is that the fridge needs to be on its own circuit. It's funny because we have an extra-big-ass inverter drive fridge that never draws more than an amp or two, even at startup because it's inherently soft-start.
But also helps avoid the case where your coffee maker trips the breaker shared with your refrigerator and you don't notice until the food in the refrigerator is warm. (which was a risk in my previous apartment - the counter circuits were shared with the refrigerator). I think it makes sense to have it as a separate circuit.
My thought was to share it with the lights, so you get an early indication if/when there is a fault than just your fridge going out.

Overall, given the massive fears of a fridge failure, which can happen beyond just electrical failures, very very very few people have any kind of monitoring/alarming for this event. You’d think that would be the first requirement.

Ouch. Code here (Ontario) is that not only does the fridge need a separate circuit, but counter outlets need two separate circuits: each socket on the duplex outlet is required to be on a separate circuit (although multiple outlets can all share the same two circuits, but you're supposed to alternate top and bottom).
Of course, if your home is older than I am or it's a handyman special, all bets are off. If I run the microwave while someone is vacuuming in another part of the house it'll trip the breaker.
Good point. I haven’t tripped a GFCI in a long while but I don’t actually know if my fridge will lose power when I do trip the GFCI. My guess is that it will since it does have a water line and ice dispenser so probably requires being wired into the same circuit.

I learned this while creating some autohotkey scripts: I could have the macro click before the button was shown on the screen.
This also created some problems where users would unintentionally hit their scroll wheel after clicking and change a 1 to a 7 on the next screen before it even appeared. That wasn’t good…

Oh, I’ve been a new hire at places like this.
The day1 stuff in the system will be logically or coherently placed (e.g. alphabetically) and then the rest will be incrementally added on top.
The menu options will go like this:
1. Alpha
2. Bravo
3. Charlie
4. Turbo-Bravo
5. Charlie-Undo
6. AAAlpha
Great for day1 users that are still there and started with just 3 options but new users are screwed. The arrangement started to stop making sense circa 1995.
I’ve seen the same thing where parts shelves were sorted by manufacturer (to make re-ordering by manufacturer simple).
When they moved to automatic inventory, shelves didn’t matter anymore and if a part was made by manu1 but now manu2, they’d keep putting it with manu1 because “that’s where everyone’s gone to look for it for the part 20 years”.
All you had to know was who made that part in 2003 when auto-inventory stopped forcing them to be consistent by manufacturer to know which shelf to pick from. Easy!
New hires get screwed and over time nothing makes sense anymore.
These price hikes do fun things to the whole market.
In one of the last GPU booms I sold some ancient video card (recovered from a PC they were literally going to put in the trash) for $50.
And it wasn’t because it was special for running vintage games. The people that usually went for 1st rate gpus went to 2nd rate. Pushing the 2nd rate buyers to 3rd rate, creating a market for my 4th rate gpu.
my thought was that a diode removes all the current from its voltage drop (aka: why your LED will burn out if it gets uncontrolled current). A resistor will never remove all the current going through it.
Maybe we're saying the same thing in different ways.
I maintain a 20 year old Corolla, which is incredibly common throughout Africa (exported 2nd/3rd/4th hand).
But users from there rarely pop up in the forums or anywhere else I’ve found.
I dunno how they diagnose obscure condition XYZ without the like 9 retired mechanics on the forum.
Do they all use closed WhatsApp groups? Do they just consume tech info but not produce?
I appreciate they don’t all speak English, nor a language that Google Translate is good at.
They’ve gotta be dealing with the same problems we do fixing these, if not more.
