when the seconds count the police are only minutes away

My heart really goes out to those of you who went through long battles. Today would have been father’s birthday, sadly he passed away last year aged 61. I often anguished over how quickly he left us, two weeks from the day I found out he was sick to the day he died, I now realise that although I was robbed of time, he and I were both saved a lot of pain.

That seems like a strange line to draw, surely plenty of disabilities are genetic, implying bad genetics no?

Sure, but it's unlikely that you would have an IQ that low, and not have a specific medical disorder that is causing some of your impairment. E.g, Down Syndrome is a chromosomal change, something that can be measured outside of a 'bad genetics'.

What? You somehow think that if there is a named thing then it's not genetics. It's genetics both if it's a named thing, and if it's yet unnamed thing too.

My point is that the distinction is important.

Of course, named disorder or not, genetics can be the cause/have a high impact.

There is a thin line between disability and just different genetics.

E.g. is it bad for a primate to have bad bite strength? What if that disability enhances their thinking ability (by both allowing their brain to expand more since the muscles holding the jaw are weaker and by forcing them to use something other than their bite strength)?

I would like to see it your way but all of this so-called decoupling from China seems very half-arsed and appears to me to be nothing more than a show for the electorate. None of it seems very concrete, for years we’ve read that country X is going to hold China accountable for Y but China just keeps on steamrolling forwards without much consequence.

Decoupling is happening due to labor costs in China and its hardening stance on foreign investment. It'll take time, but it'll happen.

Another +1 for AMD from me, only reason I haven't bought one yet was I was hoping to get an AMD chip for my next laptop.

>Because Asian countries were basing their advice on science

Actually for the most part this isn't true, our government was also telling us to wear masks but because of our previous experience with SARS everyone wore them anyway. Now of course it is illegal not to wear one.

Maybe, just maybe you're the one of the opposite cliffs edge. But no, you'd never consider that.

Very true, it goes a long way to explaining the current state of news and politics.

Sure, it's not like the current lines of conflict haven't existed for hundreds of years or anything. This reductionist mentality is really starting wear thin.

Love this story, funnily enough it was the first story I ever read on HN on my first day of work as a junior developer.
