You phrased it in a way as we decided to or somebody even asked us. I don't think that's how it works.
Humans don't sit together and decide their future, we aren't that coordinated or united.
But people like Elon and other people or groups, with the right resources, network, luck, talent and money build their vision of the future and how it turns out nobody knows until it happens.
Bollocks, by your standards we can't discuss the most vile people because 'nobody's perfect' but there is a huge gap between the likes of Musk and ordinary people.
Indeed, at least a $700 billion gap. One is reminded of a great Mark Twain quote, "Whereas principle is a great and noble protection against showy and degrading vanities and vices, poverty is worth six of it."
The problem is that the Venn diagram of 'vile people' and 'billionaires' has a lot of overlap so these people are doing a disproportionate amount of damage.
Not to go heads I win, tails you lose, but even if we go down this path - it's the same story because militaries are investing heavily in LLM stuff, both overtly and covertly. Outside of its obvious uses in modeling, data management, and other such things - there also seems to be a fairly widespread belief, among the powers that be, that if you just say the magic words to somebody, that you can make them believe anything. So hyper-scaling LLM potential has direct military application, same as Starlink and Starship.
You are a fool if you can't see what's right in front of your nose. Every single person I've talked to outside of the US sees that Trump is working towards a genocide. I'm very concerned about my family and friends over in the US.
But I do agree that all the other administrations have paved the way
Not entirely sure where you get that I am not seeing what is happening.
All I am saying is that we need to be better than them and not twisting information to fit what we want to say.
That doesn’t remove or diminish any criticism of trump and this administration but let’s actually fight lies with facts instead of stooping to their level.
It would not be a good look at all (hypothetically since I don’t know) if we go after Palentir for this app and its all trump this, trump that. And it comes to light that the contract started under Obama for example. That doesn’t mean we don’t criticize them, it doesn’t mean we don’t criticize trump, it doesn’t mean we don’t protest ICE. But it means that we don’t try to say that ALL of this is under trump.
We are constantly calling them out for lying, half truths, twisting truths, etc. We must be better than them or we look like hypocrites and all that does is make it harder to get people to actually come out and vote for our side when it matters.
I mean, as a snarky hyperbole about how ridiculous consumer products have become, sure. In reality, I would be very surprised if Oral B decided I needed Internet access to use my toothbrush.
