I've been doing IT for decades. Many times I've come across something that seems stupid yet also has a non-trivial number of supporters. When this happens (and it will many times), don't just continue to think it's stupid. Question if you are stuck on some paradigm or mindset that makes the thing seem stupid to you. That might call for a good head shake, a walk in the park, or a weekend-long bender to open your mind to new ideas. You don't have to jump on their bandwagon, but at least you'll increase your understanding and strengthen your position.

Maybe it’s for a use case I don’t understand… but I don’t see why anyone would use this for a modern, complex, richly interactive web-app. I also don’t really see any examples of a high quality major production site using htmx.

Lot's of comments here at the "micro" level: about the comfort of an individual pedestrian. There's also the "macro" view: how best to quickly and safely move a large number of pedestrians in a short window of time. The PATH mostly connects Toronto's financial district full of office towers and 9-5 workers with a transportation hub, Union Station, at its south end. Union Station gets around 300,000[0] passengers a day, most but not all are office commuters. Without the PATH, the sidewalks would be absolutely (and dangerously) jammed between 8-9am and 4:30-6pm.

There are those like me who eat meat, like the taste of meat, but think for health reasons they should be eating less meat.

> ,,, we're now on the cusp ...

Would that be the same cusp self-driving cars were on 5 years ago? I think the benefits of LLMs are farther in the future but the (massive) costs are here today. Folks, invest your retirement savings carefully.

Yup, lots of Y2K work shipped offshore in the 90s while onshore worked on the web boom. After Jan 1, 2000, mgmt thought, hey, how can I use these cheap guys elsewhere.

Be sure to clean the ceiling too if said guest was a bum gun noob.

Hot showers too! And 1-800 phone numbers. In my motorcycle touring days, at 3pm or so I'd figure out where I would be at 7-8pm, lookup the nearest KOA in the KOA directory booklet, and call the 1-800 to make a reservation. Often when I arrived, they were turning away unhappy would-be campers as all spots were already taken.

I've been turned away a few times. Real campers (not people on an 800lb hog or hauling a 3 ton tiny home doing 7mpg) are using a tiny fraction of the total area and all that space is wasted. they could be making more per camper per night by splitting camper sites by making small footprint spots where they otherwise couldn't put a car site. This is what a real campground spelled with a C does.

These days the trick when motocamping in the east is to look up the KOA location, and then check the rate at the local campsite across the street or down the road.

Out west of course you usually have free options.

It's the Biden sell-off. /s

You jest, but that's absolutely how the MAGA folks talk about it in their echo chamber. It's an alternate reality.

And the speakers set to 11?

This has me worried and slightly panicky as all this could hurt my family and I. I'm Canadian and a retired IT guy, less by choice and more by ageism in IT hiring. Seeing and knowing that forced early retirement could easily come in this industry, I saved throughout my career and am now comfortable. But my plans assumed having healthcare and investments in an economy that wasn't tariffed into the stone age in an attempt to force us to bend a knee.

It's more likely this is just old man ramblings at a press conference and/or as a distraction from the real actions they will blitz through in the first days, i.e. the Bannon playbook from 2016

With all the the worry about the bad things Trump 2.0 will bring, we forgot how much insanely stupid stuff he says just so people will talk about him and he can see himself on TV. The dude is a reality tv star first and foremost
