That's interesting, I'll look into it. Using the method outlined in the article I can get it to the point of being almost not being able to see the screen. Though at night once your eyes adjust, I think going even dimmer could be useful.
One downside of either the zoom trick or the reduce whitepoint option is that you won't see the screen dim before the screen locks from inactivity. This occasionally trips me up if I'm having trouble reading a page quickly. I usually work around this by just touching the screen occasionally or increasing the inactivity limit temporarily.
Thanks, glad you like it. We decided not to make it embeddable and instead have exportable versions of the chart. But if you have a compelling use case we could always change that!
For the past year I've been collecting what I was calling "life hacks", but are really their own thing — I've decided to call them practical betterments — mostly because the domain practicalbetterments.com was available.
I didn't originally intend for this collection to be a website — but after boring everyone I know with them, it seemed important for my personal life to have an outlet.
I built a todo list extension that blocks addictive websites until you finish your tasks. Importantly it redirects you back to your todo list and shows you a pair of disappointed eyes.
I believe it really helped me deal with procrastination, but of course the whole project was just a way to procrastinate.
I planned to make it a business, but many of its features are now built into OS. And Google doesn’t like it.
You can still get it for brave and Google chrome, but I’m no longer working on it. In case it you need it. The Firefox version is not good.
This is one of greatest resources for understanding depression I have encountered — not only is it helpful for people with depression or who seek to understand what a friend is going through — It's also extremely interesting.
- I couldn’t get a coffee recently because there was a couple complaining that their coffee hadn’t arrived. (They took ages) it turned out they had ordered coffee at the wrong location (it’s a chain).
- went for pizza. And had to enable location services to make sure I was in the restaurant. Presumably to prevent the above issue.
- allergies - went to a restaurant where a member of staff has to come out and talk about allergies even though they’re on the digital menu. So you end up ordering twice.
A lot of screen reader users are partially blind, in the process of losing their site, or sharing a screen with someone else. So it’s better to give both experiences at the same time
