I can't imagine being stuck in a floating smoke pit. The airlines would have to pay me to fly.

I think Tumblr could pickup where LiveJournal left off if comments were enabled.

Tumblr already has a lot of the userbase that LiveJournal used to have, even without comments, but it lacks LiveJournal's useful privacy controls.

A billion dollars is powerful. If he wants to; I'll bet that Saverin will find a way to live in the U.S. again.

I think you greatly overestimate how much power a billion dollars provides...especially since the IRS would lay claim to that billion if he ever tried to return to the U.S. Why would they work out a deal when they could get their hands on the billion and have an example for future tax evaders?

Note: I use the term tax evader in this context because if Saverin attempts to return to the U.S. in the future (as a resident or citizen), it will be clear that his renunciation of citizenship was primarily for the purpose of evading taxes.

It also looks like the stabilized video is magnified a little bit. Regardless, these tools are really neat and they are still in their infancy. It's good to see that GooTube still believes in user-generated content.

Cropping and magnifying the video is required for all methods of video stabilization, because otherwise you would see the edge of the original frame move in and out of view.

Are there any stabilization algorithms that use other frames in the past and future to fill in the gaps with (possibly anachronistic) data?

I think we're still in the infancy of crowdfunding. Backers are donating real dollars into crowdfunded projects, and they're obviously going to want to see a finished product. It's going to be interesting to see how crowdfunding evolves over the next 10 years.

Some people are using e-mail like IM and e-mail is built as an asynchronous communication system. In my opinion, that's where the friction happens.

The author of this post brings up a great point about defining expectations on reply times. I think it's healthy to create an auto-reply that states that you only check e-mail x number of times a day.

I would find getting an auto-reply for every email I send to someone, just telling me they won't be looking at it until later that day ~incredibly~ frustrating. I do not need that email on my phone. I do not need that email in my box. Perhaps a rapportive like sidebar, but not as an email proper, please.

New York City is one of the most culturally diverse cities in the world, and I'll bet that the diversity in New York is evident in New York's tech scene.

Many cities like to claim this, but NY barely makes the top 10. For example, Dubai has way over 75% foreign residents. And cities like Toronto and Sydney are both statistically and anecdotally more culturally diverse.

I'd be more interested in the number of fashion/wedding startups in NY and the percentage of females who run said startups. Huge stereotype and completely unfounded, but it wouldn't surprise me either.

New York's natural born citizens are culturally diverse.
