Well designed carbon rims are surprisingly durable: https://youtu.be/VfjjiHGuHoc

When carbon fiber rims were new we still had not transitioned to disk brakes. You had to keep an extra eye out for misaligned brake pads to make sure they weren't dragging on surfaces not meant for friction contact. Now they make more sense. But also different loads on a wheel under braking than before, but also more like a wheel under acceleration, which is torsional force on the other side of the axle and pointed the opposite direction.

>> I have no idea why people buy pistols that aren’t Glocks.

Eh, that glock grip never felt right to me. The moment I picked up a PPQ it felt like someone had designed a grip specifically for my hand.

Fwiw, I love my PPQ Q5 Match.

Paprika (an app for storing recipes) can parse out the ingredient list and directions from a webpage. It's surprisingly good at it.

thank you for this! i'll check it out

Could probably make a small stand with nubbins from touch screen pens as the feet.

That whole region the dirt is orange from the iron content rusting and the lake has been a dumping ground for iron mining tailings for the past couple centuries. It's not surprising in the slightest that something evolved which could consume iron.

Lest this mislead anyone, that's a touch panel not a thermostat. Pretty much all of Crestrons panels and Processors (the brains of the system) ran some form of windows embedded. They've switched the current generation over to linux I believe.

I wouldn't consider a Lutron light switch to be a direct comparison to Crestron. Crestron targets the ultra wealthy by being very reliable (assuming setup by a competent programmer) with unified control of pretty much everything household - shades, lights, audio, video, etc. They're aiming for the kind of people who will pay a premium to make sure their house just works, every time, without having to deal with tech issues.

You could certainly bodge together a similar system for less money, but the controls won't be as nice and it'll be nowhere near as hassle free long term. HomeAssistant and competitors have really been catching up in the past few years though, i'm excited to see competition in the market. I wish they could all play nice together with reasonable APIs :/

>>immersed in a thermally conductive resin

sounds heavy

>>Just feels like 'skimming' a real book instead of actually reading it.

That's the goal for me lately. I primarily use Youtube for technical assistance (where are the screws to adjust this carburetor?, how do I remove this brake hub?, etc). There used to be short 1 to 2m videos on this kind of stuff but nowadays I have to suffer through a 10-15 minute video with multiple ad breaks.

So now I always watch youtube at 2x speed while rapidly jumping the slider forward to find relevant portions.
