Interesting perspective. I wonder if there are gradients on the alert spectrum, from having bombers continuously airborne to several days notice required before operations. Is there an in-between type of alert that doesn’t require quite so many resources? Or does the alert aircraft always need to be able to launch within the flight time of an ICBM?
